Cookies are small pieces of data or text files sent from a website and stored on your local computer while you are browsing that website. Cookies are then sent back to the originating website on each subsequent visit, or to another website that recognizes that cookie.

Such cookies may have different purposes. There are technical (functionality) cookies, which allow websites to remember the choices you have made (such as language settings) and to provide enhanced features. Session (temporary) cookies allow website operators to link the actions of a user during a browser session. Finally, tracking cookies collect information about how our website is used for managing its performance and design (analytical cookies analyse and record the behaviour you adopt on the website in order to offer you the best possible experience).

The Belgian Electronic Communications Act (Telecommunications Act conversion) contains a number of provisions about cookies and their use on websites. The Belgian implementation is derived from the European e-Privacy directive, which implies that the use of cookies and cookies legislation is harmonized but regulated slightly differently in each European country.
